Agricultural insurance initiatives in Southeast Asian Nations

Agricultural insurance is still in early stages of development in most ASEAN Member States. Several agricultural insurance programmes based on weather or yield index principles have recently been introduced in Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Myanmar. In some countries, agricultural insurance is heavily subsidized by the government, offering lower premiums and providing greater certainty for farmers. Farmers in Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam can enroll in state-subsidised agricultural insurance programmes.
